Thanksgiving 09 (Picture Heavy)

Once again we had a wonderful Thanksgiving in Atlanta/Bivins Tx. If you need any further evidence that the food was abundant, plentiful and delicious here is Uncle Son after the meal, if this isn't itis I don't know what is lol.

This game helped work off some of those calories, if you've never played it is a blast.

Here's Brannon and Jared, they pride themselves on being the champs.

Which is why he was hating when we won.
Why don't my cakes ever come out this good at home?

Jared is a HUGE Dallas Cowboy's fan, in light of their record this year I'm trying to make him a Cincinnati Bengal's convert but I found out that their colors and mascot is the same as his high school rival's so I don't think he will be wearing this to school.

And of course I managed to squeeze in some fabric shopping. Thankfully the Wal-mart in Atlanta still has their fabric dept. I got these two stretch knits off the 1.50/yd table.

Some sheers for summer.

And their fleece was on sale for 2.84/yd, now I'm committed to making robes for the boys this Christmas.

That's it for me, it was a very nice Thanksgiving I even managed to see my Uncle Travis and Aunt May who I haven't seen since I was 16, they live in Dumas, ARK. It added about 4 hours to our trip home but it was worth it.

No sewing

But you know I've been up to something right. I crocheted 1 1/2 pair of Red Heart's free Toe-Up Slippers pattern. I was in need of some slipper socks, these were quick and easy. I used two strands of yarn and for the cuff I used Paton's Twister along with the hot pink, I received the Paton's Twister in my first crochet swap. I'll finish the match to this one tonight.

I know, I know these don't match but I was trying to use up my scraps, I used two strands of yarn but as you can see I ran out of the beige on the second one. I used some fun fur on the cuffs. It took about 3 hours to finish these, crochet is much, much faster than knitting or it might just be I'm faster at crocheting than I am knitting.

I finally finished my first knitted hat, it's the ribbed watchman's cap from Knitting for Dummies, I'm still waiting for this book to show up in Half Price Books, I may have to break down and order it from Amazon.

I'm going to rework the sleeves on this top I think I'm going to cut off to where the elastic is and add cuffs.

This is why I blog

As I was doing my daily reads I ran across this top on Adrienne's blog and that was all the inspiration I needed. I found this remnant while pulling out all my pj fabric and thought it was a good candidate for a MOT. Now my only dilemma is wide belt or.....

Skinny belt. Obviously I'm not going to wear it with my knitted socks and red sweat pants lol. I've had this fabric FOREVER, at first I couldn't remember when/where or what I made out of it but then I remembered I made a top and leggings sometime in the 90's.

I remembered because I found this stretch lace that matched the fabric, I think I used the lace as trim on the leggings, I did say it was the early 90's didn't I. I only have this tiny piece left after using it on my needle case.

I love the 3/4 inch sleeves on Adrienne's top but I'm in Ohio and it's November so long sleeves were a must. And this is why I love to blog I think we all appreciate each other's interpretation of a pattern and the inspiration that you get from seeing the limitless possibilities.

I'm trying to get started

Here are my fabric choice for the Christmas pj blitz. The boys loved the loony tunes but I'm running kinda low, I don't know if I have enough of any one to make a pair, we'll see.

I love this snowman flannel I picked up in Texas but my DD nixed it for the boys and I kinda agree.

Love this believe flannel but again not a choice for the boys, I think I just might make myself a pair out of this.

And this would be the reason I didn't get any further than planning. This is the same dance I attended last year and I wasn't going to until Jenice said everyone would bring a is my kryptonite. We had a ball, hopefully all the line dancing burned off all those late night calories. (Get it, Jackie)

And boy did they bring it, pasta salad, potato salad, tuna salad, Swedish meatballs, cheese ball, chicken wings, hot wings, chocolate eclairs (I've got to find out who was evil enough to bring these) deviled eggs, and all kinds of chips and dips.

Me and my girls, how old do we have to be before I stop calling them "my girls", Mo, Me and Christine. I wore my cute little caplet that I made last year but one line dance and it had to go.

I hope everyone had a great weekend.

Name Change

I'm changing the name of my blog. I have a terrible habit of putting pins in my mouth while sewing. Once my GS asked me why I was "eating those pins" so I guess he gets credit for being the inspiration. And after a year I wanted a change.

I really, really wanted to sew

You know what they say about the best laid plans. I had big plans to sew this weekend but alas life interrupted and all I managed to do was get this cut out, I knew it would be quick because I made the sleeveless version over the summer; I whipped it up this evening.

It's Simplicity 2852, view A but I modified the sleeves, instead of making a casting for the elastic I used invisible elastic about 1 1/2 inches above the wrist to give it a bit of a ruffle effect, I like it. At least this will qualify as a Month of Tops entry.

I hope everyone had a great weekend.

Halloween 09

I'm a little late but here's the Halloween shots, my little guy is the skelton, he goes trick or treating with his cousins every year, he had quite the candy haul, his pumpkin was full when he got back.

Here's my slightly slutty Wonder woman lol, actually she was very cute.

I'll leave you with a picture of my top, I finished it Friday evening, it's Butterick 5260 view A, easy peasy. A guy asked if I was dressed as a church window for Halloween, hater, I love it.

I did get started on my pants and made some progress, I still have to attach the waistband, closures and hem them, I'm using McCalls 5941, it's a Palmer/Pletsch with lots of fitting tips which I found helpful.

I hope everyone had a great weekend.
