Weekend Wrap and Honest Opinions

This is a KitKat cake, I got the idea from Noble Pig.

My GS turned 9, yes 9 I can't believe it, he was very impressed with the cake. My cake baking skills are fine, always from scratch but decorating not so much. When I saw this I had to make it. A bit too much for me but if you're 9 you think it's awesome.

My first Starting at the Top, top. It's Simplicity 2554, I think the fabric was purchased at Wal-Mart for 1.00/yd. It's paper thin so I lined it with nude knit tricot. I love Faye's sewing challenges. They really inspire me and I love seeing what everyone comes up with, great jump start to Spring sewing.

I was going to name this post when fabric speaks listen but then my DD came over and said, "Mom, what is that Chinese dress on your form, it's looks like a Madea dress", not a compliment. It's Simplicity 4190.

So I put it on with a belt and sandals so she could get the full effect, she did say it was cute but I'm not so sure she was sincere. Then my friend came over and I showed it to her and she said, "that's ugly" I'm glad I have an honest DD and friend but I really like the dress. It was going to be a top for the Start at the Top challenge but I decided to make the dress instead. So the jury's still out on this and you can be totally honest because the people that love me certainly didn't hold back. Lol.

I want to make the sleeveless top/jacket for the challenge.

This is cut out and waiting, I used a remnant and I had to do some creative cutting so we'll have to see how this works out.

In any case I'm enjoying the Start at the Top challenge and Thanks again Faye for jump starting my Spring sewing.

Happy birthday to your adorable grandson and many blessed more. I like both garments and the dress looks cute on you. The belt raised the bar.

I wish you had cropped the picture so that I could see the dress better. From what I can see, I like it a lot. TFS
